Independent artist Kota The Friend is gearing up to drop Vol. 5 to Lyrics to GO and released his latest single, “YUMA.”

The freestyle-like track showcases the rapper’s skills on a soft, rhythmic sound as he reflects on where he’s traveled on tour, getting paid and being completely free.

“My lineage remember the pain. I’m getting us paid,” he raps. “Nothin’ finna get in my way. A n***a free. Never being enslaved. Until I’m digging my grave. Give a f**k about your expectations. Everyday we having celebrations. Revelation after revelation.”

In the visual, we see Kota The Friend placed in the Mojave Desert with a small studio set-up of a laptop and microphone stand placed on crates. He goes bar for bar with headphones on as he recites his raps from his phone.

Kota took to Instagram to share that he recorded “YUMA” in the natural setting of the Yuma desert on the Arizona and Mexico border.

Lyrics to GO, Vol. 5 will have productions by Hit-Boy, Sango, Exile and Statik. The project is set to be released on Jan. 25
