The Weeknd is giving back to students in California with a donation to a Los Angeles-based Non-Profit, School on Wheels.

Students from K-12th grade will receive help with items such as laptops, tutoring services, software and internet access and much more through the program.

According to the School on Wheels website, The Weeknd’s donation will “support 1000+ students experiencing homelessness from kindergarten through twelfth grade. The mission of School on Wheels is to enhance educational opportunities for children who are the most disadvantaged in the city.”

Charles Evans, the Executive Director of School on Wheels, spoke with Fox 11 News about The Weeknd’s generous donation and what it meant to the non-profit.

“Anybody who knows a little bit about The Weeknd knows that not only is he a great icon as an artist, but he also does a lot in terms of philanthropy,” Evans expressed. “So we were just happy and thrilled to be one of the many organizations that he decided to serve.”

According to Evans, 168,000 students are experiencing homelessness in California, making up 20% of the homelessness nationally.
